ENTHUSIASTS HAVE been paying to fly into space for more than two decades. In 2001 Dennis Tito, an American engineer and investor, paid $20m ($35.6m in today’s money) for a jolly to the International Space Station (ISS). A string of other wealthy passengers followed. Charles Simonyi, another American businessman, even managed to go twice, once in 2007 and again in 2009.
