Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has inaugurated Cochin International Airport Limited’s latest venture, Taj Cochin International Airport, a five-star hotel built by CIAL and operated by the IHCL Taj Group.
CIAL is the second airport in India to introduce a hotel under this business model, utilizing its land for strategic ventures.
Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that constant innovation is essential for individuals and institutions to thrive in a rapidly changing world. He highlighted the importance of adapting to shifting trends in service delivery, especially in the era of pervasive new media. These days, providing the best services is not enough, as new media impacts daily life. People should be able to be convinced of the benefits, he said.
The Chief Minister also praised CIAL’s professional marketing strategies and ability to communicate its initiatives benefits effectively.
Meticulous planning
He cited the 0484 Aero Lounge, launched in September, as a testament to meticulous planning and market research. With its focus on the “Art of Affordable Luxury,” the lounge has become a resounding success. The newly inaugurated five-star hotel aligns with the evolving needs of modern travellers and showcases how public sector organizations can leverage their resources to drive growth.
The Chief Minister noted that CIAL’s forward-thinking projects, including expanding the international terminal, green hydrogen plant, commercial complex, and golf tourism initiatives, reflect its vision for sustainable development. These projects, slated for completion by the financial year 2025-26, aim to position CIAL as a gateway to the nation by attracting more airlines, boosting regional connectivity, digitizing services, enhancing security systems, and advancing MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) services.
He also stressed the need for active participation from the tourism and hospitality sectors to complement the government’s infrastructure development efforts, viewing this project as a step in that direction.
