The European Commission has expressed concern about the US decision to restrict exports of advanced artificial intelligence chips to selected EU member states and their companies. The measures, announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce, are aimed at protecting American technology but have sparked opposition in Brussels.
Vice-President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen and Commissioner Marosz Shefczovicz emphasized the importance of transatlantic cooperation in a joint statement.

The decision to exclude the Netherlands and Taiwan, which play key roles in chip production, is easy to understand. However, it is more difficult to explain why Belgium was considered a strategic ally and Poland was not – we read in the Euractiv analysis.
