Aussie Alexei Popyrin is currently in the middle of the biggest match of his career as he features in a Grand Slam Round of 16 for the first time ever. It comes after his heroic victory against tennis great Novak Djokovic in the US Open third round.
The Solomon Islands has been struck by a 6.6 magnitude earthquake early this morning.

Popyrin loses second set amid ‘shameful’ scenes
Well it’s going to be a huge battle now for Alexei Popyrin if he’s going to make it into the quarter finals of the US Open.
He is now two sets down to Frances Tiafoe and it will be hard to take for the Aussie after he was serving for the set at 5-3. He ended up losing the set on a tie break and has a mountain to climb.
That’s because there’s a raucous crowd here at the Arthur Ashe stadium where fans are firmly behind US star Tiafoe. Some online believe the crowd are taking it a step too far, cheering when Popyrin produces an error and few cheers when he scores points. One fan described it as “shameful”.

Worker ‘stable’ after tiger attack at Dreamworld
Dreamworld are expected to release a statement shortly on the tiger attack this morning that has left a female worker in hospital.
Queensland Ambulance Service has told Yahoo the woman is in a stable condition and is currently at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Dreamworld’s Tiger Island has nine Sumatran and Bengal tigers housed at the popular tourist attraction.

Female worker mauled by tiger at Dreamworld
In some breaking news, a female worker has been mauled by a tiger at Gold Coast’s Dreamworld.
The woman has suffered deep lacerations and has been rushed to hospital, Queensland Ambulance Service told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
The worker, understood to be in her 30s, has suffered injuries to her arm.
Yahoo has contacted Queensland Ambulance Service for further details and will bring you those as soon as we get them.

Popyrin loses first set against US fan favourite
The US’s Frances Tiafoe has taken the first set 6-4 against Alexei Popyrin and the home crowd absolutely love it.
Popyrin did have a couple of break points earlier in the set but Tiafoe fought back and is now looking very strong, with the 25-year-old Aussie struggling with unforced errors.
While Popyrin has never been at this stage of a Grand Slam, Tiafoe has been in the last four and last eight of the previous two US Opens.

Close call as roof flies off in wild winds
Well this could have ended very badly.
NSW SES crews have managed to secure a roof that has been blown off just metres from the Princes Highway at Bega.
“Luckily the tree behind it did a pretty good job of catching this roof before we got here,” the local crew said.
The country’s southeast continues to be hammered by destructive wind with several reports of damage as a result. Emergency services in Victoria are advising for those in the state to work from home where they can.

Popyrin settles nerves with emphatic start to Round of 16 tie
Alexei Popyrin looked in the zone as he emerged at the Arther Ashe Stadium with his headphones on earlier. It may have been an attempt to block out the noise of the crowd who are unsurprisingly right behind US star Frances Tiafoe. He got a huge reception when he came out onto the court.
But the Aussie star settled any nerves by winning the first game on his serve without losing a point.

Aptly named syndicate lands $2.5m lotto jackpot
One group of Melburnians will no doubt believe they’ve manifested a jackpot win thanks to their aptly-named syndicate.
‘Cash A Licious’, a syndicate set up in St Kilda, took home $2.5 million in Saturday’s TattsLotto draw, with its eight members winning just over $315,000 each. Good luck to them all.

Woman in cabin killed by falling tree
A woman has died after a tree fell on a cabin in Moama on the NSW-Victoria border.
Officers found the body of a 63-year-old woman in the wreckage after emergency services were called shortly before 4am. A 63-year-old man was also treated by paramedics for injuries to his right hand.
It comes as wild winds batter Australia’s southeast. Millions of people have been warned to brace for the conditions as evacuation warnings are in place across Tasmania while watch and act warnings for winds equivalent to a category three cyclone are in place across Victoria.

6.4 magnitude earthquake near Australia
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has struck Australia’s neighbour the Solomon Islands early this morning.
Initially reported at 6.5 magnitude, the Bureau of Meteorology says there is no tsunami threat for Australia. Hawaii authorities have also issued the all clear.
The quake struck Bougainville Island. There are no immediate reports of structural damage.

Popyrin all set for US Open showdown
Alexei Popyrin is minutes the biggest match of his career with a Round of 16 clash at the US Open against 20th seed Frances Tiafoe. It’s the first time Popyrin has ever been at this stage of a Grand Slam.
The 25-year-old Aussie, currently ranked 28 in the world, made global headlines for seeing off 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in the third round.
We’ll bring you updates on how he’s going. Whoever wins will face Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter finals.
