The Bianconeri could not have asked for a better start to the Thiago Motta era, winning both games 3-0, but this is their first major test.

Tim Weah, Khephren Thuram and Arkadiusz Milik are out of action, but new signings Nico Gonzalez, Teun Koopmeiners, Francisco Conceicao, Pierre Kalulu and Douglas Luiz are on the bench.

The coach keeps faith with Next Gen products Nicolò Savona and Samuel Mbangula, who both scored on their full senior debuts.

Kenan Yildiz is in a trequartista role supporting Dusan Vlahovic.

Roma had a complicated campaign, drawing at Cagliari and suffering a shock home defeat to Empoli, all in the middle of transfer chaos around Dybala and failed medicals for Tiago Djalo and Kevin Danso.

Manu Kone is on the bench following his deadline day move from Borussia Monchengladbach, while Enzo Le Fée is injured.

Still trying to find their shape with so many new players, Daniele De Rossi had been expected to move to a 3-5-2 with Saelemaekers given his debut from the start behind Dybala and Artem Dovbyk, leaving Matias Soulé on the bench against his old club.

Instead, it is a 4-3-3 with Dybala and Leandro Paredes dropped to the bench in favour of 19-year-old Niccolo’ Pisilli’s first ever senior start.
