Hockey fans will now have to turn to Sony Sports Network (SSN) to watch the much-awaited Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25, as the company has announced a three-year deal with the league on December 13. The League makes a comeback after a seven-year gap with promoters like JSW, Vedanta and JK Cement picking up franchises.
Fans can watch the live telecast of matches from December 28 on Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 3, and Sony Sports Ten 4 channels, extending the viewership to Tamil and Telugu regions as well. The tournament, which will take place in Rourkela and Ranchi, will feature top Indian and international hockey stars across both men’s and women’s leagues.
Key step
Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer – Distribution & International Business and Head – Sports Business at Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “We are excited about this three-season partnership and see it as a key step towards establishing ourselves as the ‘Home of Hockey,’ just as we have done with other major sports in our portfolio.”
Similarly, Bhola Nath Singh, HIL governing committee member, said, “Our focus has always been on promoting hockey to a wider audience and this partnership with Sony Sports Network allows us to do that. With their multilingual telecast plan, we are making the sport accessible to a larger audience, bringing them closer to the game. We believe this season will set a new benchmark in terms of viewership and fan engagement.”
