UC San Diego gets record 160,150 applications for fall undergraduate enrollment – San Diego Union-Tribune

UC San Diego received a record 160,150 applications from prospective students seeking to enroll this fall as freshmen or transfers, the second-highest figure among the nine undergraduate campuses in the University of California system.

The number is 3,244 higher than it was a year ago. Only UCLA attracted more interest, drawing 173,297 fall applications, according to preliminary figures released by the UC Office of the President.

Collectively, 249,824 students submitted applications to UC schools, 1,134 fewer than they attracted for fall 2024.

UCSD is in the midst of a long and historic expansion that saw enrollment reach a record 44,256 last fall. School officials say the figure could hit 50,000 by 2030 and 56,000 by 2040.

The UC report says that 87,549 of UCSD’s applicants are California residents seeking to enroll as freshmen. An additional 20,023 are Californians who are applying as transfers.

The remaining applicants are from other states and countries, applying as freshmen and transfers. The UC typically issues its admission decisions by March 31.
